LITTORAL STATES is a shifting, reciprocal project that explores affinities beyond time, place, tradition and medium. Working in collaboration between Montréal, Morin-Heights and Brussels, musicians Sarah Pagé and Patrick Graham, along with visual artist Tamar Kasparian, chart pathways at once elusive and overlapping. Referencing a variety of natural elements and artistic traditions, ‘Littoral States’ endeavours to dissolve boundaries and foreground the incorporeal.
From the beginning of the project ‘Littoral States’, Sarah Pagé and Patrick Graham worked with visual artist Kasparian Tamar on the interplay between sound and image. Tamar produced multiple, amazing mixed media works, and selected a series that accompanies the music in a beautifully hand-crafted special edition of the vinyl album. The design and binding were done by Mona Habibizadeh and Tatsuya Inuikawa (La Rivière Sèche), in Brussels. Each copy is personalized and signed by Tamar.
"Drawing while listening to music is both object and process. Like a dance of the hands, each dynamic, each gesture has its importance. This process is a form of creation that does not place the eye at the center but the hand. There is in this procedure uncontrollability, chance, undisciplined flaws… an eventuality that leaves room for creation.
For the limited edition of Littoral States, each drawing corresponds to one of the pieces of the album and opens a door to another universe linked to the previous one. The form of the booklet, created in collaboration with Tatsuya Inuikawa's La Rivière Sèche bookbinding workshop, reflects this link between each piece by offering multiple combinations of drawings between them."

« Littoral States » est un projet mouvant et interactif qui explore les affinités au-delà du temps, de l’espace, des traditions et des médiums. Fruit d’une collaboration entre Montréal, Morin-Heights et Bruxelles, les musiciens Sarah Pagé et Patrick Graham, accompagnés de l’artiste visuelle Tamar Kasparian, tracent des chemins à la fois insaisissables et imbriqués. Puisant dans une variété d’éléments naturels et de traditions artistiques, « Littoral States » s’attache à dissoudre les frontières et à mettre en lumière l’immatériel.
Dès le début du projet « Littoral States », Sarah Pagé et Patrick Graham ont travaillé avec l’artiste visuelle Tamar Kasparian sur l’interaction entre le son et l’image. Tamar a créé de nombreuses œuvres multimédias remarquables et en a sélectionné une série qui accompagne la musique dans une magnifique édition spéciale de l’album vinyle. La conception graphique et la reliure ont été réalisées par Mona Habibizadeh et Tatsuya Inuikawa (La Rivière Sèche), à Bruxelles. Chaque exemplaire est personnalisé et signé par Tamar.
" Le dessin à l’écoute de la musique est à la fois objet et processus. Comme une danse des mains, chaque dynamique, chaque geste a son importance. Ce processus est une forme de création qui ne place pas l’œil au centre mais la main. Il y a dans cette procédure de l’incontrôlabilité, un hasard, des failles non maîtrisées … une éventualité qui laisse place à la création.
Pour l’édition limitée de Littoral States, chaque dessin correspond à un des morceaux de l’album et ouvre une porte vers un autre univers lié au précédent. La forme du livret créé en collaboration avec l’atelier de reliure La Rivière Sèche de Tatsuya Inuikawa reflète ce lien entre chaque morceau en offrant de multiples combinaisons des dessins entre eux. »
